My name is Araminta Greaves and I have got a sweet tooth.
Anyone else out there feel the need to confess? I have always had a sweet tooth and as a child in the 1970’s that meant eating highly coloured and flavoured sweets, or candy for my American friends. Favourites included Fruit Salads and Blackjacks which were once 4 for a penny. Oh the joy of a Sherbert Fountain or a Curly Wurly! Were they actually bigger back then or was it that my hands were much smaller? I certainly remember having to hold my Wagon Wheel with both hands and I’m pretty sure that the Tunnocks Tea Cake was the size of my face. To be given 2p after school to get a little paper bag of sweets on the way home was surely ecstacy beyond measure.
Now that I am an adult my tastes have changed but the sweet tooth is still there. I don’t want to consume vast amounts of empty calories, or rot my teeth but I can’t forget my childhood favourites. To keep my connection with these precious childhood memories without running the risk of creating new memories in the type 2 diabetes clinic, I channel my memories into my work. This is where the inspiration comes from for my Sweetie range of handspun yarn colourways.

This collection is in its infancy at the moment with just two colourways so far, Fruit Salads and Sherbert Pips. A new addition is in development, can you guess what it will be? Put your guess in the comments below before thenew colourway is launched at the end of February. The first person to guess correctly will win two skeins of the new yarn, one corespun and one beaded. If you would like to suggest a sweetie to inspire another addition to this collection, I would love to hear your suggestions.

This is such a brilliant idea for naming a collection – and for a competition! Hmm, so is it going to be Spangles? Or Parma Violets? Tootie Frooties? How many guesses can I have? I’ll plump for Spangles if I have to choose just one 🙂

I loved pear drops and Cola cubes!
Ooh Jess, interesting colour opportunities with pear drops. Cola cubes were delicious but very scratchy, no marmite or salt and vinegar crisps for at least 24 hours after a couple of Cola cubes!
Hubba Bubba Bubblegum. Always takes me back to my childhood. However our sweetie shop used to sell bits and pieces which was a mixture of all the weighed out sweets, it was great. Absolutely love your idea naming your gorgeous yarn after different sweets.
I remember when Hubba Bubba first arrived in the village shop. It was so exciting and I felt very American chewing it all the way back home until caught with forbidden bubble gum and made to spit it out!
Oh I loved Black Jacks so that is my guess – I can just imagine some beautiful subtle grey mixes which would compliment your other lovely brighter sweeties
Nice one Lesley. Black Jacks were a personal favourite! Not sure my fillings could cope with them now though but so delicious. I agree about the colour possibilities but I might have to buy some to research further!
