I’m sure that we have all had the experience of being seduced by the colours or textures of an unusual one off yarn, only to find that when we get it home and look shamefacedly at our existing stash, we have no idea what to actually do with what we have. Two Ways to Think About Art Yarn.
I like to think of art yarns or textured yarns in two different ways. Firstly they can make excellent accent yarns to lift an otherwise less than inspiring project. Try using an art yarn to add interest to cuffs, collars or pocket tops. This can make a fairly standard cardigan or jumper into something striking and unique.

Another way I like to use art yarn is for simple projects where the colour and texture of the yarn can do all the talking. This can be particularly satisfying for relatively inexperienced knitters. If you are confident with knit stitch but want to make something that looks exciting, give it a go. A plain knit scarf, shawl, hat or hand warmers can become amazing accessories. Depending on the fibre content of the yarns, it can be fun to knit a simple bag with some funky yarn and either line it with a contrasting fabric or felt it to stablize the knitted fabric.
