Description

~100g of beautiful British Bluefaced Leicester fibre, carefully hand dyed in yellow, green and orange.

This colourway is inspired by late spring, early summer. Bright new beech leaves and occasional pops of heat from the sun.

Bluefaced Leicester is soft and semi-lustrous and a real dream to work with for both spinners and felters. The sheep themselves are quite noble looking with an almost Roman nose and large upstanding ears. As the name suggests, their faces have an almost bluey grey tinge to them. The fleeces are not large and bulky so these sheep appear to be relatively long legged. Before combing the fibre is made up of beautifully curly locks.

This hand dyed British Bluefaced Leicester fibre has been double sorted and beautifully combed. Combed top is suitable for true worsted spinning which will give fabulous stitch definition and make a robust yarn. It has a micron count of about 26 which means it is soft enough to wear next to the skin. Think hats, scarves, cowls, shawls and gloves as well as jumpers and cardigans. If you are a felter rather than a spinner, you will find that this fibre is good for both wet felting and needle felting.

If more than one braid is available, the same dyes and techniques will have been used but each braid will be unique.

I have developed my small batch hand dyeing method so I can avoid single use plastics and minimize water and energy useage. I dye using acid dyes, fixed with heat and fully exhausted so nothing nasty goes down the drain to my septic tank.
