People often wonder how to use or wear art yarn. Some art yarn, despite being so attractive with its colours and textures and even inclusions like beads, ribbons or feathers, can leave you wondering how to use it. It would be a shame to leave it languishing in your stash, unseen and unused. Yarn cowls are a great way to showcase and wear your art yarn.
Wear Art Yarn Cowls
I have designed my handspun cowls so that people who can’t knit, crochet or weave can still enjoy my yarns. The cowls are always available in each of my repeatable colourways so there should be something to suit most outfits. I do also, occasionally create one off, often seasonally inspired cowls. I have also made custom colourways like this one in my daughter’s old school colours of red and black.

The cowls start off quite fluffy but over time they age into beautiful felt strands. I have designed the yarn so that as it felts it remains separate from the other strands. This means that the cowl retains its yarny character rather than felting into a clump. I have test worn my prototype cowl for three winters so I can say with confidence that they last and just become more beautiful with time. I have washed it occasionally with a drop of delicates liquid, by hand in cool water. Actually it just needed to soak for a while and be rinsed then rolled up in a towel, squeezed and hung up to dry. Wool has amazing self cleaning properties so they really don’t need to be washed often, unless you drip soup on them – ask me how I know!
